Each year the Pune Ganesh Festival has neighborhood organisations called 'mandals' present unique tableaus featuring trending or social issues, landmark temples, etc. These are beautifully created with a lot of effort and enjoyed by thousand from the city and surrounding towns who visit Pune, just for the festival.

Before Lokmanya Tilak popularised the public Ganesh festival, dyer-merchant Bhausaheb Rangari installed this fierce demon-slaying Ganpati in his own building. The original wooden idol and the founders' wada still stand on the narrow Budhwar Peth lane.
