A hilltop fort wrapped in mist and legend, an hour from the city.
The story
Site of the legendary 1670 battle in which Tanaji Malusare reclaimed the fort for Shivaji Maharaj — and lost his life doing so. The climb up to the fort is exhilarating with panoramic Sahyadri views. You can reward yourself with local peasant fare called pithla-bhakri (chickpeas dish with millet bread) at the summit.
