Shivsrushti is conceptualized as a tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a 17th-century Maratha ruler. His reign is noted for the establishment of an independent Maratha kingdom and his military strategies. The park's development was overseen by the Jagadamba Talim Sanstha.
