The story
Hussain Sagar is a large artificial lake, geographically separating much of Hyderabad from its historical twin city, Secunderabad. Construction began in the 16th century, primarily for irrigation and water supply. The lake is fed by the Musi River. Today, Hussain Sagar is a central feature of the city's landscape, bordered by several parks, monuments, and recreational areas. A notable feature is the large Buddha statue located on Gibraltar Rock in the middle of the lake, accessible by boat. The lake's perimeter is a popular area for leisure activities, including walking and boating. Various city events are sometimes held in the surrounding areas.
History notes
The lake was built in 1563 by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, during the rule of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. It was constructed on a tributary of the Musi River.
